GNSW congratulate Lucy Stewart

Congratulations to Lucy Stewart – the 2020 recipient of the NSW Olympic Committee Athlete Grant!

The NSW Olympic Committee Athlete Grant is rewarded to talented up-and-coming NSW athletes aged 13 to 18 across NSW to assist with their preparation for future Olympic successes.

At just fifteen years of age, women’s artistic gymnast Lucy has already made a big impact. 2019 saw Lucy debut in the world of Junior International, placing 2nd All Around at the Australian Gymnastics Championships and securing her place on the Australian team for the world’s first Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.

Although faced with setbacks due to COVID-19, Lucy has stayed focused on her goals - and the wellbeing of her teammates.

Speaking to Gymnastics Australia to mark R U OK Day, Lucy reflected on the importance of your gymnastics community in difficult times.

“I think it’s really important to be there for your friends, because I know I’d like them to be there for me if I went through something - so you always try to be supportive of them and help them through whatever they need,” said Lucy.

With eyes on the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the grant will assist Lucy with preparations and training for the 2021 competition season and Australian team selections.

Gymnastics NSW congratulates Lucy on her achievement and wish her the best of luck with her return to training.
