Senior State Championship Wrap Up

Live events are back! Over 6 days, 2 weekends and 2 locations, Gymnastics NSW wrapped up the 2021 Senior State Championships.

The first Senior State event since 2019, Senior State Championships was also the first event of 2021 that had spectators in attendance, creating an energy and excitement that we certainly missed in 2020.

Kicking off week 1, our Aerobic and Rhythmic competitors took to the floor at Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre. In our Senior International Aerobic competition, North Coast Gymnastics’ Tyson Martin Durrington placed first in the Men’s Final, with PLC Sydney’s Deborah Greenbaum taking out gold in the highly contested Senior Women’s final.

Over in Rhythmic Gymnastics, 2016 Commonwealth Games medallist and Tokyo 2020 hopeful Alexandra Kiroi (Gymnastics Victoria) took out the top spot, with Charlotte Wong of Le Ray Gymnastics taking out the Residential first place medal.

Back in Sydney, our final 4 Gymsports took to the floor at Sydney Gymnastics Centre, with athletes seeking a spot on both the podium and the NSW State Team.

Kicking off our International finals, the team at Kachan School of Tumbling and Performance wowed crowds with their impressive routines- with Ethan McGinness taking out the Men’s final, and Olivia Gillot of Sydney Gymnastics Centre bringing home gold in the Women’s final. It was a big weekend for Olivia, who placed second in the Senior Double Mini final behind Kachan’s Cheyanna Robinson. In the Men’s event, World Age medallist Lleyton Pagett took out the top position ahead of training partner Justin Fokes.

Over in the hotly contested Senior Trampoline final, Australia top athletes went head to head in one of the final event before Olympic quota selection. After a close qualification event, Sydney Gymnastics Centre’s Dominic Clarke and Imogen Florian sat at the top of the podium.

In Women’s Gymnastics, Breanna Scott of NSW High Performance Centre/Sydney Gymnastics Centre finished with All Around Gold, with fellow training partner Jack Hall (NSW HPC/ Sydney Olympic Park) taking out Residential first place in the Men’s competition. In what was a big night for our Men’s Artistic event, National Training Program athlete (Gymnastics Queensland) Mitchell Morgan’s took out all around gold, with fellow National Squad team mates Tyson Bull, Clay Stephens, James Bacueti, Health Thorpe and Chris Remkes displaying some showstopping skills in the apparatus finals.
